When I started my first business, I didn’t have a clue.
I was a social services devotee, until I began to understand that helping people could come in all kinds of styles.
My mental block prevented me from getting it… that businesses have the potential to make peoples’ lives better, solve problems and enrich lifestyles. Perhaps even more effectively than social services.
I was a creative spirit without the confidence to pursue my writing dreams as a source of income and adventure, so I meandered along other pathways.
And… I was a young woman in the 70’s who believed that business exploited people and the planet, that wealthy people were superficial, materialistic hedonists and that there was a barrier between being rich and being noble.
Like most 30-year-olds, I had a lot to learn!
Does any of this sound like you?
Sometimes, as creative people, we can’t see that applying our talents to a business environment is the answer. In the land of big businesses exploiting workers, polluting our planet or pushing products on us that are just for profit, we can lose sight of the greater good that can be created by an entrepreneurial enterprise.
However, there are thousands of entrepreneurs with a passion for creating solutions, entertaining us ethically and making life on our beautiful planet more sustainable…more enriched, enjoyable…even more creative!
As a creative spirit starting down the entrepreneurial path, you’ll need some support, a strategic plan, some mentors and much of the business structure of any business. Helping you find them is the purpose of Creative Business 101.
It may not be your cup of tea, but it’s gotta be done if you want to create your dream business home. Even if you have the money to pay for business services, be sure you understand what to look for in a partner or service, as well as the basic requirements involved.
And even when you think you’ve finally learned it all… the universe sends you a curve ball. So keep on learning and growing. For creative people, that’s just natural, right?
In the long run, you’ll be glad you did!
